We are excited to welcome you to the new online home of Downriver Foster Closet!
What started as a simple idea in January 2020 has grown into a thriving community dedicated to supporting children and families involved in the foster care system throughout the Downriver and tri-county areas. Founded by two foster parents who understand firsthand the challenges and rewards of fostering, Downriver Foster Closet was created to provide essential resources, encouragement, and hope to children during some of the most difficult transitions of their lives.
Over the years, we have been humbled by the incredible support of our community. What began as a small effort to help a few local families quickly expanded into a mission that now serves countless children and caregivers. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, we have been able to provide clothing, shoes, hygiene products, backpacks, suitcases, school supplies, holiday gifts, and so much more to children in need.
But our mission goes beyond providing essential items.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel valued, included, and celebrated. Through programs such as our Birthday Club, Easter Basket Program, New Kicks Drive, Book Bag Drive, Bike Drive, Halloween Costume Program, Christmas Assistance, Prom and Homecoming Dress Giveaway, and special outings to events like Disney on Ice, Detroit Red Wings games, and Detroit Pistons games, we work to create moments of joy and lasting memories for the children we serve.
As our organization continues to grow, so do our dreams. We envision a future where Downriver Foster Closet has a permanent home that allows us to expand our services even further. We hope to offer support groups for foster families, educational programs for caregivers, life-skills classes for teens aging out of foster care, scholarship opportunities, and additional resources that help children and families thrive.
Our new website is an important step forward in that journey.
