Downriver Foster Closet was founded by two foster parents who have both adopted children and continue to care for kids within the foster care system. In January of 2020, what started as a simple idea quickly became a mission fueled by compassion, community, and the desire to help other foster families throughout the tri-county area.
We opened our doors because we understood firsthand the challenges foster families face and wanted to create a place where support, resources, and hope could be shared. What began on a whim rapidly grew into something much bigger than we ever imagined, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community.
Running the closet is a tremendous amount of work, but every moment is worth it when we see the smiles, excitement, and joy on the faces of the children we serve. Whether it’s receiving essential items, participating in one of our special programs, or simply feeling seen and cared for, those moments remind us why we do what we do.
