Downriver Foster Closet is a local 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to help foster kids rebuild
their self-esteem and adapt to their new home. We offer free items to kids new or used like clothing, socks, underwear, shoes, suitcases. We started this non-profit
to help relieve some pressure on the foster parents and have grown to help birth parents as well. It is our goal to come together as a community and help assist and
support the foster care system and these kids in any way we can. We opened in January of 2020 and have made a huge difference! Not only have we helped over 200 kids
in foster care, but we have also helped over 30 birth families, and the community of downriver as well. We have opened our doors to working with other nonprofits to
make a difference and to foster care parents for all the tri counties! Some of the programs we have done are Bike Drive, Book Bag Drive, Christmas, Birthday Club,
and Easter. We are hoping to add a few more programs like new kicks, Winter Coats, homecoming/prom dress, we would like to do a drive for teens, and a baby drive.
We also want to help educate bi-racial foster families on how to care properly for their kids hair, we also would like to do a Foster Care College Scholarship.
